Question 1: What is WVPW's refund
policy?
Answer:
For ALL Registrations
WVPW will provide a refund up to the last day of registration.
The only exceptions being “medical necessity”, and “no team available within
High School area or another reasonable alternative area.”
End of registration is considered the official last day of registration.
Question 2: What is the correct
process to file a complaint?
Answer:
We do observe a structured process when it comes to complaints. We do this due
to the work load of those further on-down the line.
Please follow this order when you have a concern or a complaint:
Coach
Contact Association by calling --- 541-607-4153
Association Coaching Coordinator
Association President or Area Representative
League Coaching & Sportsmanship Committee
League Vice President
League President
Question 3: How do I apply for a
scholarship?
Answer:
There are three ways to receive scholarships.
1. We offer a 25% discount for anyone on a reduced lunch program.
Please mail
your proof of assistance to your
local association.
2. We offer 50% discount for OMAP or greater need assistance.
Please mail
your proof of assistance to your
local association.
3. We offer an additional option to receive the Tyson Mageo-White scholarship.
This scholarship will reduce the balance due to $50. No TMW scholarships awarded
following June 30th final date. This requires a request letter be sent to WVPW
indicating the need for the additional scholarship. These are on a first
come-first served basis based on the current balance in the fund.
Please
send a letter indicating what benefit a scholarship under this fund will have on
your child to
your local association.
Question 4: Why no standings for
MM & TM?
Answer:
In order to have standings you need to have a declared winner and scores. Which
these two levels of the league do not have, so no standings will be published
for the Tiny-Mite & Mitey-Mite divisions.
Question 5: Do you offer
cheerleading?
Answer:
At this time Willamette Valley Pop Warner does not offer cheerleading. Any form
of cheerleading done at a game by an organized group of individuals are not
covered under WVPW insurance.
Each group needs to know that they are not affiliated with WVPW, therefore WVPW
assumes no liability. Also, as with all non-players and non-coaches, nobody is
allowed within 10 feet of the playing field. In other words, please keep this
group either in the stands or on the track. In the case of Cottage Grove (and
possibly the Eugene turf fields) there is nobody allowed on the track, either.
This is not to restrict their cheering, it's for the safety of our WVPW players
and staff.
Question 6: What counts as a play
for the MPR?
Answer:
Counts as a play:
All offensive plays
All defensive plays
Punt and Punt Return plays
Field Goal plays
Not a play:
Kickoff
Kickoff Return
Standing Kicks / Free Kicks
Point After Attempts
QB Intentionally spiking the ball to kill the clock
Any offensive or defensive play where a penalty has been called and the down
is replayed
Question 7: What happens when the
MPR is not met?
Answer:
When a player does not have all their minimum plays by the end of the third
quarter, they are to start the fourth quarter and play until they have reached
their minimum plays. This requirement is the responsibility of the "Head Coach".
If at the end of the game, a player does not have their minimum plays recorded,
the following will happen at a minimum (subject to Sportsmanship Committee
Review):
1) The player will have double the amount of minimum plays for the next game
(i.e. normally 14, the next game would be 28).
2) The "Head Coach" is placed on probation for the rest of the season
a) If the "Head Coach" violates this a second time it will result in a one
game suspension
b) If the "Head Coach" violates this a third time it will result in a one
year (calendar year) suspension
Question 8: I would like to fill
out the application for my son however I'm a little confused on how I should be
converting his grades to come up with the GPA. His school scores on the
following:
E = Exceeds Standards
M = Meets Standards
D = Not currently meeting standards
Y = Yet to be taught
Answer:
Use the 3 point system for this type of grading, E=100%, M=86%, D=69%
Question 9: What if I don't have
a Birth Certificate?
Answer:
A birth certificate is required to play Pop Warner Football.
NOTE: Hospital records (i.e. footprint paper with DOB) are
nice, but does not replace the need for a birth certificate.
If you do not have a birth certificate and you have ordered one from the State
and if the birth cert doesn't arrive before practices begin, please provide proof of
application for it and then your son should be OK to participate in practices.
However, he would not be allowed to participate in the jamboree or any games
until the true copy is on file.
Question:
Is a birth certificate required each year my child plays?
Answer:
Yes. We do not retain birth certificates or any other sort of vital information
season to season.
Question 10: What if my
child(ren) are home schooled?
Answer:
Not a problem. All you will need to do is has the home school supervisor create
a letter that says that your child is currently home schooled and is receiving
passing grades. Please visit our Scholastics page
for more information.
Question 11: What is the GPA
requirements to play Pop Warner Football?
Answer:
The National Pop Warner rules require a 2.0 or 70% GPA in order to qualify to
play.
Question 12: How do I view the
online rule book? Who can I contact to obtain the password needed to view the
Pop Warner Rule book on-line? The national web site states that every
organization has been supplied with the necessary password.
Answer:
Each area rep has the password. If they do not have it then they need to contact
the League Vice President.
Question 13: How do I contact
WVPW?
Answer:
The best way to contact WVPW is via email. You can check the "Board of
Directors" link on the left hand side of the main
page (http://wvpw.org) to find an

Question 14: What divisions does
WVPW have to offer?
Answer:
Please visit this link for divisions
and age/weight matrix.
A child’s age on July 31st is his/her age for the
season.
Question 15: Can I coach?
Answer:
We have a selection process that includes a mandatory criminal background
check. Contact the Coaching Coordinator for more information.
Question 16: Where do we play?
Answer:
WVPW is working to secure the best possible playing locations in Lane County.
Most of the older kids all play on local turf fields. Playoff games are
typically held at Reser Stadium at OSU, and State Championship games are held at
Autzen Stadium at the University of Oregon.

Question 17: When are practices?
Answer:
Many parents and coaches work during the week days, so practices are typically
held in the late afternoons to early evenings.
Question 18: Do we have to be at
every practice?
Answer:
Absences are the sole discretion of the individual coach. Since we have a
maximum amount of practice time per week, (10 hours per week before Labor day
and 6 hrs per after labor day) most teams will only practice 3 days a week.
Talk to your coach about pre-arranged absences.
Ten hours of conditioning
(practice without pads) are required before gear can be issued to participants.
This is a Pop Warner insurance issue and there are no
exceptions.
Question 19: I want to go on
vacation sometime between August 1 and August 30, can my child still play?
Answer:
Your child would miss the required conditioning practices prior to the season
start. All conditioning and requirements must be met before the player can
participate in games and contact drills. It would set the player behind should
they miss any time.
Question 20: Will we be playing
Rouge Valley (Medford/Grants Pass) teams?
Answer:
WVPW has agreed to let the Rouge Valley teams in our league. This will allow
them to travel to Cottage Grove on Sundays to play WVPW Teams. This is only done
if RVPW needs additional teams/games to complete a full season.
Question 21: Will we have to
travel?
Answer:
This depends upon the amount of kids in the program. It is possible your child
may have games in the Albany or couple in Vancouver, WA. The distant
traveling is normally reserved for the Junior/Senior divisions. Please be
expected to travel within 4J, Bethel, Harrisburg and Junction City school
districts.
Question 22: What do I get for
my registration?
Answer:
You get to keep: Jersey, socks, shorts and a t-shirt
You get issued: Helmut, pads and everything else you need to play (with the
exception of the items below)
Things not provided: Cleats, mouth piece, girdle (not required), athletic
supporter & cup.
Question 23: Will my child get
to play with his friend?
Answer:
Most likely, but there are no guarantees. Pop Warner Little Scholars follows a
strict age-weight matrix. Not all kids are the same size. Athletes are sorted
based on high school area, middle school area, and then by grade school.
Question 24: Why are we playing
on Sunday?
Answer:
Due to the amount of following for Oregon and Oregon Sate football games we try
not to conflict with these home schedules. Linn Benton, Vancouver play all
League games on Sundays. Due to referee shortages, we may need to hold some
games on Saturdays. There possibly could be some Saturday Night games for the
older kids. 7th and 8th Graders. Our Junior/Senior divisions more than likely
will play their games on weeknights.
Question 25: What happen to the eMailing list link?
Answer:
Now that our league has migrated all membership info to LeagueOne, we will no longer be sending messages from a private eMailing. The private eMailing link has been removed and the data from this list will be deleted. All future communication via email will be sent by using the email addresses in LeagueOne.
Question 26: Why do I keep getting an email that says that my login to the forum has been rejected?
Answer:
The forum has two levels of viewing, one is public view - which does not require a user name or password and a private view - which requires a login and password. Public view: The forum site does not allow for public commenting, it is now a vehicle for Area Reps and Committee Members to communicate to their respective teams. Private view which does require a login & password is reserved for Board Members, Committee Members and Area Reps. If you are on a committee and require access, submit a login request and contact your committee chair to have them notify Admin that you require access. If you are an Area Rep and require access, submit a login request and contact your Area Rep Coordinator to have them notify Admin that you require access.
Question 27: What are the requirements to qualify for the "Child of a Deployed Soldier" registration waiver?
Answer:
All the childs parent or guardian has to do is to bring in the current government paperwork (i.e. deployment orders) and we will register that child at no charge. This registration requires an on-site registration (online not available).
Question 28: What is my associations mailing address?
Answer:
Please click here for mailing addresses of all the associations.
